Eight wounded in Israeli strikes on Lebanon despite Rome talks

Israeli warplanes and unmanned aerial vehicles carried out multiple airstrikes on the town of Burj Al-Shamali in southern Lebanon's Tyre district overnight, wounding eight people as the seventh round of ceasefire negotiations continued in Rome. Lebanon's state-run National News Agency reported that drones struck the Al-Malaab neighborhood three times before fighter jets conducted a fourth attack on the same location approximately 3.1 miles from the city of Tyre. The Health Ministry confirmed the casualty toll in a statement issued Thursday morning.

Expanded military operations

Israeli aircraft also launched three separate strikes on an area between the towns of Mansouri and Majdal Zoun, while artillery and tank fire targeted Mansouri directly, the National News Agency said. The attacks occurred as Lebanese and Israeli delegations met in the Italian capital for the seventh round of US-mediated talks aimed at solidifying the ceasefire agreement reached late last year. Washington has sought to broker a lasting truce between the sides since the initial cessation of hostilities took effect in November.

Casualties mount despite diplomacy

Thursday's violence marks the latest escalation in a series of truce violations that have persisted since early March despite ongoing diplomatic efforts to stabilize the border region. According to the Lebanese Health Ministry, Israeli attacks since March 2 have killed 4,333 people across the country. The death toll includes civilians and combatants killed in airstrikes, artillery barrages, and ground incursions that have continued despite the nominal ceasefire.
