India, Israel elevate ties to 'special strategic partnership,' sign 16 deals in emerging tech

Indian Prime Minister Narendra Modi and Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu announced Thursday the elevation of bilateral relations to a "special strategic partnership" during Modi's two-day visit to Israel. The leaders agreed to establish collaboration in critical and emerging technologies, with Modi stating this "will give new momentum to cooperation in areas such as artificial intelligence, quantum, and critical minerals."

Comprehensive Agreements and Trade Prospects

At least 16 pacts were signed across diverse sectors, including civil nuclear energy, space, future-ready farming solutions, and "villages of excellence" initiatives. Modi emphasized that New Delhi and Tel Aviv will pursue joint development, production, and technology transfer in the defense sector, and announced that both nations will soon conclude a "mutually beneficial" free trade agreement. The wide-ranging agreements significantly deepen ties between the two nations, which have cultivated increasingly robust diplomatic and security cooperation in recent years.

Modi's Gaza Remarks

Addressing the conflict in Gaza, Modi stated that "humanity must never become a victim of conflict" and noted that "a path to peace has been created through the Gaza peace plan." He affirmed that "India has fully supported these efforts" and pledged continued dialogue and cooperation with all countries on the matter. The remarks come as India balances its growing strategic partnership with Israel while maintaining traditional ties with Arab nations and its long-standing support for Palestinian statehood.
