Iraqi Prime Minister Ali al-Zeydi has called on Turkish companies to seize investment opportunities in Iraq's promising economic landscape. During a meeting with former Turkish Treasury Minister Lütfi Elvan, al-Zeydi highlighted projects in airports, railways, metro lines, energy, and agriculture as key areas for bilateral cooperation.

Iraqi Prime Minister Ali al-Zeydi has extended an official invitation to Turkish businesses, urging them to capitalize on the growing investment potential across his country. Receiving a Turkish delegation led by former Treasury and Finance Minister Lütfi Elvan in Baghdad, al-Zeydi emphasized that Iraq is entering a promising phase for development and economic expansion. The meeting, which included senior Turkish officials and business representatives, focused on strengthening bilateral ties and expanding joint ventures between the two neighboring nations.

Strategic sectors open for Turkish investment

Prime Minister al-Zeydi outlined specific sectors where Turkish firms could play a pivotal role, including the construction and operation of airports, railway projects under the Development Road initiative, and a metro line connecting the holy cities of Najaf and Karbala. He also pointed to opportunities in the energy sector, particularly thermal power plants and solar energy projects, alongside dam construction and agricultural development. These initiatives form part of Iraq's broader strategy to rebuild and modernize its infrastructure while creating a favorable environment for foreign investors.

Elvan highlights growing confidence in Iraq's market

Lütfi Elvan, speaking on behalf of the Turkish delegation, expressed that leading Turkish companies are ready to enter the Iraqi market and commit to long-term investments. He noted that confidence in Iraq's investment climate is steadily increasing, citing the Iraqi government's facilitation measures and incentives as positive signals for potential investors. Elvan stressed that Ankara views Iraq as a strategic partner and that enhanced economic cooperation would benefit both countries, contributing to regional stability and prosperity.

Strengthening economic ties between Türkiye and Iraq

The Baghdad talks underscore the deepening economic relationship between Türkiye and Iraq, two countries with shared borders and historical ties. Both sides reaffirmed their commitment to expanding collaboration across multiple sectors, with Turkish firms already having a significant presence in Iraq's reconstruction efforts. As Iraq continues to stabilize and pursue ambitious development projects, Turkish expertise in infrastructure and energy positions Ankara as a natural partner. The invitation from al-Zeydi signals a new chapter in bilateral economic engagement, with Turkish companies poised to play a central role in Iraq's transformative journey.
