Kuwait's Defense Ministry spokesman Saud Al-Atwan said Saturday that the country's armed forces detected "hostile drones" in the nation's airspace since early morning and "dealt with and destroyed them" after attacks targeted vital installations in northern Kuwait and civilian assets on Bubiyan Island.
Material damage
Al-Atwan said the "Iranian aggression" targeted a government facility in the country's north and vehicles belonging to a civilian company on the island, noting that falling debris caused material damage but no injuries were reported. The armed forces "remain on constant alert and are taking all necessary measures, in coordination with the relevant authorities, to protect Kuwait's sovereignty and ensure the safety of citizens and residents," he added.
Regional escalation
The incident comes amid renewed hostilities between the United States and Iran in recent weeks, with Washington carrying out strikes on Iranian positions and Tehran responding by targeting what it describes as US military facilities across the region. Kuwait has historically maintained a delicate balancing act in its foreign policy, though Saturday's events mark a rare direct violation of its airspace during the current escalation.
