Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu said Israel must reduce its reliance on foreign weapons and build independent military capabilities amid disagreements with the Trump administration over the US-Iran agreement. The remarks came after US Vice President JD Vance sharply criticized Israeli ministers for opposing the deal, warning them not to attack “the only powerful ally” Israel has.

Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu said Tuesday that Israel must break free from dependence on foreign support and strengthen its own independent arms system, amid growing tensions with the Trump administration over the US-Iran memorandum of understanding. Speaking at a meeting with reserve combat officers in the occupied West Bank, Netanyahu said Israel values US assistance but must build more strength and technology to determine its own future . The remarks come as Israeli political and security circles debate the implications of the US-Iran agreement for the war on the Lebanese front.

US criticism

Last Thursday, US Vice President JD Vance sharply criticized Israeli ministers over their opposition to the US-Iran deal. “If I were in the Cabinet of the Israeli government, I might not be attacking the only powerful ally that I have anywhere left in the entire world,” Vance said, adding that two-thirds of defensive weapons protecting Israel have been built by American hands . The US and Iran announced a Pakistan-mediated 14-point understanding on June 14, which entered into force on June 18, including provisions to reopen the Strait of Hormuz and lift the US naval blockade on Iran.
