Putin to attend SCO summit in Kyrgyzstan next week

Russian President Vladimir Putin will travel to Kyrgyzstan next week to attend the Shanghai Cooperation Organization summit, Kremlin aide Yury Ushakov said on Friday, announcing a delegation including Foreign Minister Sergey Lavrov and Deputy Prime Minister Alexey Overchuk.

Delegation and bilateral agenda

Ushakov told reporters that the two-day event will begin on Monday in the Kyrgyz capital Bishkek. Putin will be accompanied by Foreign Minister Sergey Lavrov, Deputy Prime Minister Alexey Overchuk, and Deputy Chief of Staff of the Presidential Executive Office Maxim Oreshkin.

The Kremlin aide said the summit will address further strengthening of the organization and maintaining cooperation across multiple sectors. Putin is scheduled to hold nine bilateral meetings on the sidelines with leaders including Chinese President Xi Jinping, Iranian President Masoud Pezeshkian, Indian Prime Minister Narendra Modi, and Armenian Prime Minister Nikol Pashinyan.

Presidency handover and summit documents

"The SCO meeting will decide on the next chair, with the Islamic Republic of Pakistan taking over immediately after this summit. Incidentally, Russia is next in line to assume the presidency in 2027-2028," Ushakov was quoted as saying by Russian state news agency RIA.

Ushakov noted that around 20 to 25 documents are being prepared for signature at the summit, including a post-summit declaration. A meeting in the "SCO Plus" format will also be held in Bishkek during the gathering.

Eastern Economic Forum

Following the SCO summit, Putin will travel to the Russian Far East city of Vladivostok on Tuesday evening to participate in the 11th Eastern Economic Forum, Ushakov added. The Russian president is scheduled to address the forum's plenary session on Wednesday and will meet with Indonesian President Prabowo Subianto and Chinese Vice Premier Ding Xuexiang on the sidelines.
