Trump called Netanyahu 'crazy' over Lebanon escalation: Report

US President Donald Trump told Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu he would be in prison without American support and called him "crazy" during a profanity-laced phone call about escalating violence in Lebanon, warning that strikes on Beirut would deepen Israel's isolation, according to the Axios news site.
US President Donald Trump denounced Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu as "crazy" and ungrateful during a profanity-laden telephone conversation on Monday regarding Israel's military escalation in Lebanon. Trump warned that proposed Israeli strikes on Beirut would only deepen the country's international isolation, according to the Axios news site.
Prison warning
During the exchange, Trump reminded Netanyahu that he had played a decisive role in keeping the Israeli leader out of prison during his corruption proceedings, one US official told the outlet. "You're f**king crazy. You'd be in prison if it weren't for me. I'm saving your a**. Everybody hates you now," Trump said, according to the official's summary. Another source familiar with the call said Trump was "pissed" and at one point shouted: "What the f*ck are you doing?"
Beirut strikes halted
Trump intervened to halt Israeli military action against the Lebanese capital and expressed particular anger over the high civilian death toll, criticizing operations that involved destroying buildings to target single Hezbollah commanders. Following the conversation, an Israeli official told Axios that Israel is no longer intending to carry out strikes against Hezbollah targets in Beirut.
