World leaders in finance take part in the second day of the G20 summit of the Finance Ministers and Central Bank Governors Meeting at the Omni Grove Park Inn in Asheville, NC, United States on September 01, 2026. US Treasury Secretary Scott Bessent is hosting a two-day meeting of the Group of 20 world leaders in finance.

US President Donald Trump praised the G20 Finance Ministers Meeting in North Carolina as "very productive and positive," commending Treasury Secretary Scott Bessent and urging other nations to slash taxes and regulations while embracing his "drill baby drill" energy agenda.

US President Donald Trump on Tuesday praised the G20 Finance Ministers Meeting in Asheville, North Carolina, as a success, posting on Truth Social that "very productive and positive conversations were had today at the G20 Finance Ministers Meeting in Asheville," and commending Treasury Secretary Scott Bessent for his work. The two-day meeting brought together finance ministers and central bank governors from G20 economies as part of Washington's 2026 presidency of the bloc.

Energy and tax agenda

"Thank you to Secretary of the Treasury, Scott Bessent, who is working hard for us, and doing a fantastic job representing the U.S.A.," Trump wrote on the platform, urging other nations to adopt policies he credited with driving American economic expansion. In a direct message to foreign counterparts, Trump stated: "Other Countries should follow our lead, and cut Taxes, Regulations and, where possible, DRILL BABY DRILL."

He added that his administration remains focused on economic expansion, writing "GROWTH, GROWTH, GROWTH" in the post.

2026 presidency

The Asheville meeting marked the first major G20 finance gathering held on US soil during Trump's second term, with Washington preparing to host the full G20 summit in 2026. "We are leading the way, and the World is watching!" Trump said.
