United States President Donald Trump

US President Donald Trump has signed an executive order initiating the "Genesis Mission," a major national artificial intelligence project. The initiative, led by the Department of Energy, aims to leverage AI to solve the country's most complex scientific challenges. It will create a unified platform combining supercomputers and vast datasets to accelerate innovation.

US President Donald Trump has enacted an executive order to launch a significant national artificial intelligence initiative named the "Genesis Mission." The project is designed to position the United States at the forefront of global AI development and use the technology to drive a new wave of scientific breakthroughs.

A National Effort for AI Leadership

The executive order frames the initiative as a critical response to global technological competition. It calls for a “historic national effort” to harness AI for solving the nation's most difficult problems. The order states that the Genesis Mission is intended to “unleash a new age of AI‑accelerated innovation and discovery,” underscoring a strategic push for American technological dominance.

Department of Energy to Lead Implementation

According to the directive from the White House, the US Department of Energy (DOE) will be responsible for leading the Genesis Mission. Its primary task is to construct the American Science and Security Platform, an integrated AI infrastructure. This platform will merge the power of national laboratory supercomputers with secure cloud systems, AI models, and extensive federally held scientific data.

Strict Timelines for Platform Development

The order sets forth aggressive deadlines for the DOE. The department has 90 days to inventory all available federal computing resources and explore potential industry partnerships. Within 120 days, it must identify the initial datasets and AI models to be used. A demonstration of the platform's first operational capability is expected within 270 days, signaling a rapid rollout for the ambitious AI project.
