President Donald Trump calls on House Republicans to approve a Senate-backed budget blueprint by June 1, aiming to restore immigration enforcement funds amid a partial government shutdown.

U.S. President Donald Trump urged House Republicans on Monday to quickly adopt a budget framework already passed by the Senate, describing it as a critical move to renew financial support for federal immigration enforcement agencies.

Priority for the House

Trump insisted that the lower chamber must unite behind the same blueprint approved last week by Senate Republicans. “I’ve asked for the final Bill on my desk by June 1, and we can make that deadline if we keep to the plan, fast and focused,” he wrote on Truth Social. The funding is intended to sustain Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE) and Border Patrol operations for the remainder of his term without relying on Democratic votes.

Government shutdown fallout

The Senate’s move is part of a broader Republican strategy to end a partial government shutdown that has left the Department of Homeland Security (DHS) unfunded since February 14. The deadlock stems from a partisan clash over immigration enforcement, with Democrats demanding stricter oversight following fatal shootings by federal agents in Minnesota in January.

Democratic conditions

Democratic lawmakers have tied their support to significant reforms, including a ban on mask-wearing by ICE officers, mandatory body cameras that remain active at all times, and visible identification for agents. From Türkiye’s perspective, the ongoing stalemate in Washington highlights how domestic political divisions can delay border security funding, an issue with global implications for migration management and international cooperation.
