How"s the situation?
Let"s continue via candidates and political parties…
First, the opposition:
Following Ekmeleddin Ihsanoglu preference, CHP is already in a divided state. As the disintegration between the deputies and inside the organization has finally reflected on the voters, it seems that this situation will start a new and inevitable fight within CHP following the elections. CHP, who had been unable to create a synthesis or language suited for new Turkey"s structure, expectations and the mood of the time, and thus, been unable to transform, is starting to split up among the components that forms CHP itself. It"s inevitable that the Ekmeleddin Ihsanoglu preference will end with frustration for CHP and MHP both. The roof candidate, who is degrading the runoff election to a single round and killing the politicization that might be formed in the second round, right off, is the result of the opposition being unable to possess a strategy other than hindering Tayyip Erdogan.
It seems that, with the addition of liberal and left-winger groups, who are acting accordingly to the Erdogan allergy, on top of CHP and MHP"s attitude, Turkey will be enslaved to the "single ruling party" model for a while.
Political power…
Despite all the crisis they had faced, AK Party is entering the elections triumphantly. This is normal because, AK Party"s story is not only composed of an ideology"s, a political party"s or a leader"s story. On the contrary, as we had underlined for years, this power points to a strong sociological wave, base and transformation. It seems that the two main principles, which were emphasized in the speech given by Erdogan following the announcement of his candidacy, the "communal and national self-reliance" factor and "representation of left-off and abandoned groups, and using the power for their sakes, and a denominational transformation within this frame", will continue being an indicator in the sense of the meaning given to the democracy by the conservative world and the country"s direction. Hence, contrary to the expectations, forget about declining, AK Party is preparing to open a new page in terms of their story and Turkey"s transformation phase. This corporation transformation phase, with its positive and negative aspects, will be forming one of the main topics of the agenda in Turkey in these upcoming two years.
Erdogan will be competing against himself in these elections and his objective will be winning the elections in the first round. Thus, already, all the questions asked to him are about how he will create a "presidency practice" and who will be the next Prime Minister. Indeed, the percentage of votes Tayyip Erdogan might get and his preference for the Prime Ministry has the possibility to affect the course of the system via the difference between the sharing of power and fixing on an individual.
And Kurds:
HDP is representing a lot of elements at once. First of all, without a doubt, is the new political role of the Kurdish Political movement, which had been shaped by the peace process. This role, whether in terms of support for stability or representing the opposition, shows that Kurdish political actors are advancing towards being one of the founding elements of new Turkey. For a lot of observers, as HDP stopped being fixated on the Kurdish problem and started their claims of Turkization(whether it"s true or not, time will tell), it"s becoming clear that HDP is coming to position to fill the gap of an opposition against AK Party. Another element related with HDP is they might be the only factor that could prevent Tayyip Erdogan"s victory in the first round, since they already have six percent of the votes; but because of various reasons, the door to nine percent is open for HDP.
This is another tool for the Kurds: to make their presence felt and to be included in the game.
In conclusion, there are elements symbolized by Demirtas" candidacy. In this topic, let"s give the floor to Ümit Firat, in his article published and aired on Al Jazeera Turkey. He states that: "PKK has been formed by Abdullah Öcalan and a group of friends in 1978… and someday a legal political party will be developing under their control…I don"t think that TC (Republic of Turkey) is dreaming of putting up a candidate for the presidential elections and acquiring a critical role. (…) In an environment where projects, which will involve Kurds as well, about the future of Turkey are being discussed, presidential elections being regarded importantly by Kurds and being nominated for this spot, is a hopeful development in terms of Turkey"s political future".
More or less, these are the consequences of the politics….
