"My cause, concern and my longing is Diyarbakır…"

"My cause, concern and my longing is Diyarbakır…"

At the evening of Prime Minister Erdogan"s Diyarbakir rally, I participated in the "the Solution table" program of 360 TV. The Suriçi Içkale district was chosen as the program"s location. This beautiful place was long used for JITEM"s military base, and as Ilhami Isik remarked, "It was a place either for being killed or to kill people".

I was quite astounded to be in this magical place for the first time knowing that the excavations of the unresolved murders had been conducted there. From 1993-1997, no information could have been received from those ever since they entered the JITEM"s military base with white Toros cars. In such a place that witnessed a great horror not too long ago, it was meaningful to have the program on the resolution process and the new Turkey. As Ilhami Isik said in his program, tormenters and murderers of that time are now concealing themselves in their caves today. And we were talking about peace at the same time in that place.

No doubt, the incomplete stage of the resolution process is about the investigation of the unresolved murders and the waiting of justice that did not go beyond the Euphrates. In fact, during the excavations in 2102, the skulls and bones that were found predated their time, but the excavation ceased. Ergenekon and unresolved murder cases – for some reason – could never spread to this place. This deficiency must be amended as soon as possible. These cases, which appear to have been exploited for some sort of agenda, must absolutely be brought up again and the truth must be found out.

Prior to the beginning of the program, a Kurdish guy who brought tea told us, "I am 33 years old and have never seen peace ever since I was born. Please may peace be settled and let our fate change." We have suffered in the west a lot, too. However, we didn"t pay the price as Kurds did. The biggest victims of the old Turkey are our Kurdish citizens. This country must pay its debt of gratitude to them by means of the resolution process.

Indeed, it won"t bring back the dead, but no one in this country would ever think of torturing any citizen by using the forces of the state. This is only possible through punishing outrages on justice.

It is not only Diyarbakir that I am talking about. A few days ago, I visited Siirt and all other cities; the hub of peace was so apparent that it was hard not to feel emotional. The streets at night were so vivid. And after many years of destructive disaster, people were enjoying going out, traveling to their cities freely and hanging around the streets of their districts. Perhaps those who are in the west may not comprehend well the value of this. However, in a geography where one or more unresolved murders occurred in every single house, it is an extraordinary situation. The architect of this is the resolution process.

Fifty years later, when history is going to write about these days and the events of today, the survivors will still talk about the resolution process. They will say, "Turkey procured peace through the resolution process and it created a new political climate and mentality in this country. It was this process that increased the gross national product to 50,000 dollars per capita and Turkey became listed among the top ten developed countries."

Many speculations, disinformation and the "VIP claimers" of these today won"t be recalled at that time. Even if their names will come to mind, they will pass into history as regressive forces or the blockers of peace and equal citizenship.

Prime Minister Erdogan began his word in the Diyarbakir rally with the following address: "My comrade, cause, concern, longing, Diyarbakir!" He received the biggest applause about his words regarding the parallel structure.

It is a fact that so many things that befell Erdogan was because of his effort in the resolution process that is his initiative in the Turkish-Kurdish peace process. The way to the new Turkey passed through the resolution process: this is where it all started.

The December 17-25 coup was operated to stop the new Turkey and influence the three elections with that motivation, but it failed. Kurds did not add fuel to the fire as Abdullah Öcalan identified both Gezi and December 17-25 as a coup operation. He did not act with an opportunistic or narrow logic. He took the risk and used his choice in favor of the peace of the people. In this sense, the two main founding bodies of the new Turkey are the AK Party base and the consolidated Kurds of HDP. The widespread masses have well comprehended the meaning of this historical process, including Diyarbakir.

At this point, it is notable that HDP first offered the presidential candidacy to Riza Türmen from CHP and looked for allegiance there. In turn, CHP replied, "We cannot be together, our place is near MHP". After that, it is also notable that HDP decided on Selahattin Demirtas and adopted the community language as his election campaign and maintained it through the nationalist, elite white Turks and the dying leftist neighborhood discourse.

Erdogan is right. CHP is not the architect of the Kurdish question and it did not face off the question. During the most sensitive moment of the resolution process, when a new law had just been passed in the parliament, it is impossible to solve the secret of HDP seeking an allegiance with CHP. It is impossible that this choice is Öcalan"s vision.

It is a bad policy that HDP wanted to rent out its party to the marginal symbols of the old Turkey. I have also observed the annoying effect of this in the religious Kurdish base. Let us hope that HDP will give up this bad policy and turn into an opposition party with all its serious intention to be a founding member of the New Turkey which this country has yearned for so long.

Because the last thing that this country needs is a Kurdish CHP.
