"Is Erdogan a political Islamist, who has the tendency to diverge anytime with ISIL or Iranizm, or is he a conservative democrat?"
This is the recent "new dispute", which is being introduced to the market by the alliance, who are the supporters of the Ekmeleddin Ihsanoglu project. The answer is already known: "Recep Tayyip Erdogan is a political Islamist. Ekmeleddin Ihsanoglu is the conservative democrat one and our company had presented him to the public as the presidential candidate with great self-sacrifices."
The alliance, who made hunger sorties to the Gezi crisis, had introduced, "Democracy doesn"t only consist of the ballot box" (Meaning, interventions outside politics are lawful.) and "Life styles are in danger" (Meaning, what is essential is a totalitarian, laic life style and that is absolute.) expressions to the markets. These expressions were the adopted versions of the "Danger of reactionizm" and "Rather than regressing 100 years with reactionizm, let"s lose 10 years with coup" mentality, which had remained inactive with reforms.
Nowadays the "Erdogan is not a conservative democrat, originally he is a political Islamist" paste is being cooked in the caldrons. As for this expression, it is the "new" version of the "Erdogan has a hidden agenda" propaganda that existed until the 2010"s. In other words, there is no change in the logic. This logic originates from the oligarchic guardianship being the victor in the independency quarrel rather than the public will.
The alliance, also, states that Ihsanoglu is Erdogan"s antithesis, but by making perception engineering around these two names… In other words, if Erdogan is a Political Islamist, then Ihsanoglu becomes a conservative democrat. On the contrary, Ihsanoglu being a conservative democrat is related with Erdogan being a political Islamist. And in this way, their campaign kicks off. Since the public is not that illiterate, the persuasiveness problem is replaced by leaning over the "wording".
From Ayse Arman to Sözcü writer and left-winger and Gülenist intelligentsias, none of them can stop talking about Ihsanoglu"s "calmness". In other words, Ihsanoglu will be a remedy to all the problems in the country by being calm. They are hoping that others would believe in this as well.
However, Ihsanoglu"s words about Palestine and Syria, which he said with his "calm" wording, are far from palatable. These are also not a blunder. These ideas refer to the alliance"s general view and Ihsanoglu represents this. In other words, he is a "unity pointer" rather than being a real person.
Zülfikar Dogan"s "Turkey analysis" is being published in BBC Turkish. The essence of the "analysis" is this:
"Prime Minister Erdogan is using plenty of political arguments, like a resolution for the Kurdish issue or Headscarf and Imam Hatip issue, during the election times just for votes and "victimhood literature". Until he thought that he was strong…
From the moment he came to this conclusion, he crushed the alliances he made with the congregation and burned the bridges with liberals, democrats, 2nd Republicans and the December 17 corruption and bribe operation.
He was strong enough in his point of view and he could reveal his true identity and declare: Political Islam!"
Bravo, this "Analysis" had caught Erdogan red-handed.
As if the headgear and Imam Hatip problems hadn"t been solved, and the Resolution Process law hadn"t passed from the Parliamentary. As if Erdogan didn"t become a target to achieve these. As if Erdogan hadn"t endured countless problems in order to democratizate Turkey during the past 12 years.
As if the person doing all of this was the conservative democrat Ihsanoglu, who objects to the open borders, which saved the lives of a million Syrians, and who states that "We should have been neutral in the Palestine topic" while the country is bombarded, and who states all this with a calm wording, rather than Erdogan…
If this is political Islam, then we should advise everyone.
The lynch attempt on the artists, who attended the presentation of the Vision Statement, was because they were weakening the "Political Islamist Erdogan" identity, which some people were trying to build. This is a hatred, which exploded because the photos of these people, who are loved by millions, with Erdogan had nullified their countless attempts.
Of course, the foreigners are not split from rationality this much. A little while ago, at Washington DC, Hürriyet journalist Tolga Tanis, who had been complaining about not hearing anything bad about Erdogan, had talked with ex-CIA worker Graham Fuller, whom everyone in Turkey knows quite well. Maybe he could have obtained the answers he desired more easily, if he would have talked to a Radikal journalist. However, let"s see how Fuller reads the Middle East and Turkey:
"Whether you like it or not, Muslim Brothers were elected. I wish Muslim Brothers could have stayed in power long enough to lose an election. (…) The rulership of a party like AK Party, who has an Islamic past, is helping in preventing radicalism in a vast scale. (…)"
Here, Tanis pulls the question that coincides with the hidden agenda out of his hat. "What"s the possibility of Turkey being more Islamicized?
Answer: "There is no need to be more Islamic."
Tanis makes the translation of Fuller"s answer as such: "Then, for the West"s national security benefits, an Islamic rulership will always be needed in Turkey."
Answer: "Turkey is doing this for themselves, not for the West. (…) They had turned their back on their own Islamic traditions with Radical Kemalist opinions. Now we are experiencing the normalization of Turkish culture."
According to Fuller, Erdogan"s administration style is irritating nowadays after 10 years of outstanding successes. Fuller is hoping that Erdogan will return to being normal after the election season.
The translation is as such: Islam is Turkey"s reality. Turkey, as being a democratic Islamic country, is a unique value for the world. Whatever happens at the end of the election season, this value won"t change. The USA will continue working with whoever is left standing. Though, there is no political Islam or radicalism danger in Turkey. There is only a little bit of a compliance problem between the USA and New Turkey ideals.
If Ihsanoglu becomes successful, it will be great, but if he cannot, then we will continue on our path.
The hidden agenda, which the USA couldn"t find, is bad news for some who found political Islamist Erdogan.
