Recently we have left behind a very important turning point of history. Prime Minister Erdogan"s announcement regarding his candidacy for presidency is a great achievement; because, for example, considering the conditions in 2007, this was impossible. At that time Abdullah Gül"s candidacy and election was highly important but on the other hand, the reason why Erdogan was not nominated must also have had a particular meaning.
Now, the fact that the president will be elected by the public vote has added more meaning to this. Hence, the proxy institutions overshadowing the people"s choice have been avoided. I am not referring to the Parliament as a proxy institution here, because the parliament is an essential organ. Accordingly, through the parliament, people overcome all the interventions of the elitist oligarchy with patience, political reasoning and an expansion of their sovereignty.
However, I think that in terms of the desire for democracy, taking this top office under the trust of the people, after getting the parliamentary from blocking the people"s way, is the highest possible level. Also, as an Ak Party member rising to Çankaya with a hijabi wife, the election of Abdullah Gül signified a notable turning point on this track.
However, I suggest that we must deeply focus on the reason why Mr. Erdogan avoided his nomination for presidency in 2007 and only after so many vital struggles did he reveal his candidacy only today.
I personally have never understood some people who backed up AK Party and Erdogan, having a complex with coming from a different background other than the National Vision movement. For that reason, the neighborhood pressure, that is trying to be established, is just a minor thing and would not go beyond the rich sociological data to be used in analyses.
Slurs, lynch operations and being ignored are means of the insufficiency symptoms. We all know that. Having said that, we were not born and raised in Norway in going through these lynch campaigns. We have lived through it all in this very country..
Therefore, I have always been skeptical about the ashamed support that starts with a "but", because the support involving a "but" could always have been read as an elitist attitude that manifested secretly. And eventually after a few years later, we witnessed how the members of the "But Club" returned to their own neighborhoods. In effect, we have witnessed how democrats are not identified as being equal with others, but with their word-interrupting roles in the equality process.
Especially when equality turned into a concrete thing after a probability, even the top showy names turned into an Ertugrul Özkök. I guess they were all the same in their basic character.
Since 2002, I have been writing about how AK Party and Erdogan have been a great opportunity for this country. For the last 12 years, even including the mistakes, the deficiencies of Erdogan and AK Party, issues such as Berkin Elvan and the Soma Speech and those days that would drive you crazy, the leader and party have not decreased in value. With such a dirty deep state in this country and its media using all kinds of means, you would of course evaluate the quality of a leader and party"s mistakes that carry the shifting role in a broad picture. Mistakes don"t disappear. The people"s memory is deep. They always decide with pluses and minuses. In this process, people started to support the party with 30 percent of the votes and gradually increased it to the 50s. AK Party won eight elections consecutively. This picture tells us a meaningful thing and Erdogan is identified with it.
This actually is independent from his party or leader personality or sociological features, since it has to do with what kind of executions he implemented or how he developed them and by using what kind of axiological policies. In other words, there is a serious and deep-seated reasoning – as deep as our history – behind the large-scale masses" support for Erdogan and AK Party. It"s not the conservatives that produced this reasoning, but the large and hybrid community, which has been exposed to violence through the otherization that the first republican and unionist (committee of union and progress) racist fathers established. Erdogan and AK Party are valuable for them to the extent that they meet such expectation of themselves. In such a deep-seated struggle, it is necessary for them to explain the ontological reasons with respect to being on a side from a view point of using "belly-scratch", "mouthpieces" and "self-interested" labels with a motive, in order not to lose the root idea of fascism that belongs to the privileged elite.
In other words, given the self-interest as a principle of immorality, it"s more correct to take a look at those who consider being equal with others or sharing the material and spiritual resources of the country equally with others as a class decline.
Many of the AK Party voters, accused with being Erdogan-cultists, are using their minds with such a serious and well-grounded rationality. As for the totalitarian secularists" support to "Ekmel" Ihsanoglu, whom they truly hate, similar to the MHP"s logic in backing Mansur Yavas, Baskin Oran writes: "Mr. Ekmel must be a good choice for a transitional period like this because what matters now is to take Erdogan under control, who has given a horrific damage to the country. There is nothing more urgent".
In other words, Carthage must be destroyed no matter what. In the sacred shadow of their objective, they might cooperate with the Gülen community, whom they abhor, or with the tycoon Aydin Dogan or nationalists, or even with CHP, which gave them a pain in the neck.
You cannot hear one word from them regarding the parallel state"s capture of the country. No matter what kind of immoral act is committed by any partner of this alliance, it is overlooked or even so lightly covered with care. In order to destroy Carthage, votes are needed for the Roman party CHP.
Why? Because this Carthage is threatening their Rome. They just wanted the old state to be modified a bit but remain the same. However, Erdogan did not stay at the point they wanted.
How dare!
The great Roman politician, Cato the elder, visits Carthage in 175 B.C. and he becomes obsessed with Carthage. This small city presents a serious threat to Rome and he was so convinced that he became obsessed with it. Every time he delivers a speech in the parliament, he begins with his words "Carthage must be destroyed" and finishes it using the same phrase. Finally, his request is accomplished. Carthage is destroyed.
Let"s say our totalitarian secular intellectuals have visited the other neighborhood sometime since 2002, November 3. It looks like this visit turned into an obsession, because Carthage"s own elite neighborhoods consider themselves as a threat to Rome.
In short, every individual who supports Erdogan is actually caring about his or her situation, claiming his or her own right. Indeed, people are supporting the transformation very consciously and in a manner of gradual revolution, as this is to do with people themselves.
Thus, just as they did in the last 12 years, they will go to the ballot box on August 10 and, in fact, will vote for "themselves".
And Carthage won"t be destroyed this time.
