Our country is beautiful. Everybody accepts this. Our people are beautiful, too. If you have not isolated yourself in your own little neighborhood and have been able to see different regions of Turkey, touched the people, and above all had the opportunity to experience various regions abroad you would appreciate this a lot more. In addition to having physically beautiful features, whether Turkish, Kurdish, Laz, Georgian, Azeri, Armenian, Roma, Terekeme, Bosnian, Assyriac, Yazidi, Circassian, Arab, and whoever else there is, our people are precious and beautiful. In my opinion, the most valuable advantage of entering politics is getting to know better our people, the chance to enter their homes, work places and hearts. One's confidence in this country increases as we become closer acquainted with our people.
After speaking a few words even with the most angry or prejudiced person, they open to you their hearts and homes and make room for you at their table. It is clear that we owe this to the tradition of living together for centuries, the challenging and beautiful experiences we had together. Perhaps this is what is most precious about us.
What the media is force feeding us does not really reflect the general character of this society. For instance, those who attack the female supporters of the Justice and Development Party (AK Party), prevent their democratic rights and abuse them, do not reflect the quality of this society. On the contrary, their direct aim is to destroy and corrupt this strong quality. They are either sick people or provocateurs who do their job professionally. It would be great injustice to reach general results from this regarding our people and country.
Of course our country and society is not free of error. If life exists so do problems. However, like individuals, it is important for the society to also position itself correctly to develop and progress in the right direction. Also like individuals, the society too must have self-confidence. In order to ensure that self-confidence, we must have correct information regarding ourselves. Positioning ourselves neither better nor worse than what we are will do us no good.
Turkey's peoples were in this respect done injustice. These people who together founded a great empire and priceless civilization, were broken off from their past, customs, language and faith within a day and expected to fit into a foreign gown. It wasn't only expected to do so, but it was forced to do it. When this didn't happen, distinctive identities were humiliated and depreciated, which was to an extent effective, too. Because the pressure that accompanied this engineering, the continued poverty and failures harmed the self-confidence of the society.
Westernist society engineering, symmetric with this, was quite superficial.
A new minority segment formed that took advantage of the blessings of the ruling government and the ease provided by the Westernization of wardrobes. This segment, unfortunately, experienced kind disengagement from reality that was harmful for them, too. These people thought they had really become superior and noble, knowledgeable, modern, secular and democratic. The enclosing and enclosed exchanged places. The old Turkey's state system waited patiently in a grim reality corner as long as it kept this simulation going with all its means. Right until these “others,” who were considered lowly, despicable, backward and foolish, came to power and pushed the country to the level of modern civilizations...
This delayed confrontation also brought to the agenda the delayed accident. The was a showdown between two sociologies. This is the historical/social foundation of the severity we are witnessing today. When the state's resources and the simulation created in the Cold War conjuncture ended, these segments felt naked and unprotected. The current terms is similar to the time the bourgeois displayed superiority toward the aristocracy in Europe. Segments not used to making any effort or used to having no rival, hated this change. This imbalance, anomaly is eventually going to end , is coming to balance in the most peaceful way possible with the efforts of the AK Party and conservatives; this balancing process has a positive impact on the elites or the middle-class urbanites who think they are elite. Istanbul's capital, rather than being prevented, is becoming fivefold richer and taking advantage of all the opportunities created by the silent revolution of the conservatives. But they are not in a state to appreciate its value.
The AK Party is on the right path. It is normalizing the country without being rude or becoming involved in violence. I don't think the generation that was influenced by the ideology of the old Turkey, who believed in that project and took advantage of its blessings, can recover. In fact, I also respect their right to not recover. However, when this right turns into fascism, violence, maliciousness and crime, of course it will be condemned and serve them no benefit.
In any case, if an era is closing, the owners of that era will be distressed and will not think well of those who closed the era; the lack of morality will objectify them. We are witnessing the most grotesque states of this objectification in the latest days. This is the summary of the situation that has led these segments to sympathize with the PKK, Revolutionary People's Liberation Party-Front (DHKP-C) and the parallel organization.
I don't think anybody should complain much. Neither the white Turks nor the conservatives. We are overcoming this face-off in the most damage-free way possible. The conservatives are bearing the burden, because they are the ones who are obliged to act responsibly. It is not easy to ensure the pressure created. However, the one who is able to withstand until the end will escape. The greatest award of this escape is a clear conscience.
Of course the Nov. 1 elections are important in this respect. We are going through a serious process pf uprising and coup-implementing. The greatest opportunity to suppress this is the outcome of the elections that will show the world the operations were for nothing. The election results will be the greatest slap in the face for those who took the chance of a Turk/Kurd, Sunni/Alevi war in the country to prevent the rise of the new Turkey.
There is no perfect ending. Regardless of what happens on Nov. 1, life will continue. There will be new handicaps awaiting us with the new opportunities and new opportunities with the new handicaps. This is actually one of life's glad tidings. As long as life continues, hope exists, too.
May the results of this election bring good luck to our country, region and the world.
