Who encouraged Israel to attack Syria?

After October 7, 2023, the support of England and Germany for Israel became much more visible. It is worth repeating that the word "support" is insufficient to describe the relationship of these two countries with Israel. Because Germany has effectively participated in the colonization of the West Bank, becoming part of the expansionist aggression in Palestinian lands. Immediately after October 7, German statesmen went to Israel and showed that they were also part of the extraordinary attacks on Gaza. England, through its base in South Cyprus, became part of the historic attacks on Gaza with multifaceted participation. Of course, the operations carried out jointly by England, the UAE, and Israel need to be addressed separately. Therefore, the relationship of these two countries with Israel must be considered at the level of "partnership." Yet despite this open involvement, the relationship of these two countries with Israel is defined with different concepts. Yet Israel was built as a settler colonial structure under the British mandate from 1920 onward, and Germany had assisted the Israeli colony in every period.

The involvement of England and Germany with Israel is not an ordinary matter. Especially in England, relations with Israel at the level of the state, government, and elites have always been built on ignoring the Palestinians. It would not be correct to speak of the same level of determination in the British public. After October 7, 2023, a shift against Israel began to be seen in British public opinion. Moreover, the British press is conducting very intense activity to render Israel's crimes invisible. Despite this shift, figures who reached the highest levels, like David Cameron, dared to destroy the international system itself to protect Israel and its Zionist leaders. For British elites, the mass alienation of different segments of society in England and the US from Israel is a very important issue. In this context, we can think that they will intervene to stop and reverse this change in public opinion. For example, it is quite possible that they would want to revive historical Turkish images in British public opinion. The Orientalist heritage must be taken seriously. Israel will certainly seize the opportunities that arise to activate this heritage. If such an opportunity does not arise, or if developments are in the opposite direction, they will not hesitate to seek alternatives.

We can associate Israel's bombing of the Abu Duhur Military Airbase in the Idlib countryside, very close to the Turkish border, with the changes occurring in English and German public opinion. In the previous article, I had stated that Israel drags Palestinians and surrounding countries into war when they are not ready. Israel's success story actually lay in this aggressive attitude. Israel exerted similar pressure on Syria and tried to force Shara into war. But this time, it not only failed to get what it wanted but also faced the Mecca Defense Agreement. It is also being discussed that Syria will be included in this agreement. Israel and America also failed to get what they wanted in the attacks on Iran. After these attacks, support for Israel and Zionism on the streets of England and America fell even further. The loss of public support for Israel in the Anglo-Saxon world and among the Germans is a very important event. This decline will also have repercussions on intellectuals and the academic world. We can think that they will want to stop this fatal development. For this, they will want to revive anti-Turkish sentiment.

Defining the events that have occurred since October 7, 2023, with the concept of change will probably not be sufficient. In fact, in future studies, it may be necessary to start the shattering changes a little further back. This is debatable, but it should also be considered that the shattering changes after October 7, 2023, will bring quite destructive interventions. Indeed, the critical threshold has been crossed. For this reason, we should not focus solely on US-Israel relations.

Thinking of Israel by centering the Jews and explaining European countries' relations with Israel as submission to Jewish power has caused very serious errors in the past. Since the same mistakes are being repeated today, the relationship of countries like England and Germany with today's expansionist aggression does not come to the agenda in a striking way. From now on, these two countries will need to be followed more carefully. We can also think that they encouraged Israel to attack Syria.
