World's football governing body says it is shocked, saddened by death of 9 footballers in road accident

FIFA on Wednesday expressed condolences for nine footballers, who died in a road accident in Sierra Leone.

"FIFA is shocked and saddened by the tragic death of nine young footballers and the community coach of Makarie FC, following a road accident in Sierra Leone," FIFA said in a statement.

"FIFA and the FIFA President express their condolences to their families and loved ones at this difficult time," it added.

On Sunday, nine players of Makarie football club died in a road accident in Makeni, northern Sierra Leone.
