The European High-Performance Computing Partnership Initiative has announced the establishment of six new artificial intelligence factories across member states, expanding Europe's AI infrastructure with substantial financial backing. The facilities in Czechia, Lithuania, Netherlands, Poland, Romania, and Spain will receive over €500 million ($578.6 million) in combined EU and national funding to accelerate artificial intelligence development.
Expanded AI Infrastructure Network
The newly selected AI factories will integrate with 13 previously established sites, creating a comprehensive network of artificial intelligence hubs throughout Europe. Each facility will deploy systems specifically optimized for AI applications, significantly expanding the continent's high-performance computing capacity and strengthening its position in global artificial intelligence competition.
Specialized Facilities and Service Provision
Spain's AI factory will incorporate an experimental platform serving as cutting-edge infrastructure for developing and testing innovative AI models and applications. All six facilities will provide comprehensive nationwide support services for European AI startups, small and medium enterprises, and research institutions, offering single-point access to advanced computing resources.
Strategic Investment and European Sovereignty
The €500 million investment from EU and member state sources aims to accelerate artificial intelligence adoption across key economic sectors while ensuring digital sovereignty. This expansion reinforces Europe's capacity to develop, test, and scale AI solutions within its own digitally independent ecosystem, reducing reliance on external technology platforms.
