Turkish Coast Guard rescues 10 migrants after vessel begins to sink
Turkey's coast guard rescued 10 migrants including Syrian and Iranian nationals Saturday in the Aegean Sea as their boat was in danger of sinking.
While patrolling off the popular touristic town of Bodrum, in the southwestern, a coast guard spotted an Iranian, swimming in trouble in an effort to reach Greece.
Meanwhile, another coast guard team off Marmaris, also in southwestern Turkey, captured nine Syrian migrants, including two children and two women. The escapees were taken to police station.
Turkey, a transit point for illegal migrants trying to reach Europe, signed an agreement in December with the European Union that allows EU countries to send back unauthorized immigrants entering into Europe via Turkey.
