The number of terrorists killed in Mardinand Şırnak alone since launch of retaliatory strikes rises to 706 in nearly two months
The military said another 11 terrorists were killed in Wednesday's operations, conducted in the southeastern provinces of Mardin and Şırnak.
“Six PKK terrorists have been neutralized in Nusaybin town of Mardin and five in Şırnak. Since the begining of operations, the anti-terror raids left 366 terrorists dead in Nusaybin and 340 in Şırnak,” the General Staff declared on its official site on Thursday.
Both areas have been under curfew since March 13 to close ditches dug by the outlawed organisation, and remove barricades it set up to prevent military access to remote areas.
Security forces have deactivated 17 improvised bombs in Nusaybin and and five others in Şırnak. The military discovered a total of 932 improvised bombs in the last two months, while Nusaybin saw deactivation of 850 in total.
During the ongoing sweeping operation, a cache of weapons was also seized by the military, listed as cartridges for 42 sniper rifles, a rocket-propelled grenade (RPG) and four tons of ammonium nitrate.
