Turkey''s Constitutional Court rejects the main opposition''s appeal over ''March 30'' results
The Constitutional Court rejected objections of Mansur Yavas, the mayoral candidate for the Republican People's Party, or CHP, to the March 30 election's results of a close mayoral race in Ankara.
Following the election, the capital's provincial election board had declined the main opposition's plea for the elections to be held again in the Turksh capital. CHP later immediately took its case to the Supreme Election Board, or YSK, which rejected Yavas' appeal to contest the voting results in 25 towns in Ankara.
CHP''s mayoral candidate was defeated by the ruling Justice and Development Party's Melih Gokcek by only a narrow margin. Yavas claimed he won against the ruling party''s candidate Melih Gökçek while the incumbent Gökçek said recounting will only increase the difference between the AKP and CHP vote in favour of him.
