African woman remains under medical examination after the THY flight from Nigeria
Turkish Health Ministry said it is too early to confirm that the hospitalized African woman, suspected of being infected with Ebola, had been exposed to the virus.
'Every symptom the patient complained of has been carefully examined, but time is needed until the tests confirm it is a certain case,' said the ministry.
Turkish Airlines, or THY, claimed the case is not actually related to infection of Ebola virus. "The 34-year old transit passenger was hospitalized for just an examination, because she vomited several times and her fever rose to 38 degrees on the Istanbul-bound flight. Paramedics have responded to her immediately at the airport.
"The initial symptoms were not actually related to the virus. She was taken to the hospital for a health check,' said the national carrier.
The Nigerian patient was taken to Haseki hospital with the symptoms of high fever and vomiting asfter Tuesday's flight, en route from Lagos to Istanbul. 'The initial tests showed that she is actually pregnant and has not been exposed to the virus, but much more tests are needed to confirm a certain case.' said a hospital medic.
Meanwhile, an expert said that Ebola is not known to infect people through the air. 'It is transmitted through exposure to the blood or body fluids of a human who is infected with the virus. People are also at risk of being exposed to the virus if they share needles contaminated with the virus,' said Dr. Elif Hakko, an infection expert at the Anadolu health center.
The African woman on the THY flight from Nigeria, had been hospitalized on suspicion of being infected with Ebola virus on Tuesday. The paramedics were claimed to have suspected an Ebola case.
