Gezi victim's trial adjourned to 9 October
Eight men, including four police officers, could face jail time for murdering Ali Ismail Korkmaz during 2013's Gezi protests
The trial of the killing of Ali Ismail Korkmaz, a 19-year-old protester who died after being beaten with sticks by policemen during the anti-government demonstrations in Eskisehir, was adjourned to October 9 on Monday.
The Kayseri Third High Criminal Court heard the report on the post-mortem examination, which proved his death was related to a brain hemorrhage caused by a blow to the head.
Family members of Berkin Elven, Ethem Sarisülük, Mehmet Ayvalitas and Ahmed Abdullah, who died during the Gezi Park protests, came to Kayseri to attend the hearing.
Korkmaz, a university student who was studying in Eskisehir, had succumbed to a brain hemorrhage on July 10 after spending 38 days in a coma induced by the beating.
The prosecutor in the indictment demanded life imprisonment for the officer, Mevlüt Saridogan, who kicked Korkmaz during the Gezi Park demonstrations.
The prosecutor also demanded 15 years in prison for the other seven co-defendants including three policemen for supporting the murder.
