President Recep Tayyip Erdogan received letters of credentials from the newly appointed ambassadors of the EU Delegation to Türkiye, South Korea, Mongolia, Kuwait, and Malaysia at the presidential complex in Ankara. The ceremony included separate welcomes and souvenir photos.

Turkish President Recep Tayyip Erdogan on Wednesday received the letters of credentials from newly appointed ambassadors at the presidential complex in Ankara. Erdogan separately welcomed Aivo Orav of the EU Delegation to Türkiye, Boo Suk-jong of South Korea, Lkhagvasuren Ochir of Mongolia, Mohammad Marzouq Al-Shabo of Kuwait, and Adlan Mohd Shaffieq of Malaysia. After the credentials were presented, souvenir photos were taken.

Diplomatic significance

The ceremony marks the formal beginning of the ambassadors’ terms. The EU’s new ambassador, Aivo Orav, takes office at a time when Türkiye-EU relations are being tested over issues including the Iran war, migration, and the Cyprus dispute. South Korea’s ambassador, Boo Suk-jong, arrives as Seoul and Ankara seek to deepen cooperation in defense and technology. Mongolia’s new ambassador will focus on expanding trade and cultural ties. Kuwait and Malaysia are key partners for Türkiye in the Gulf and Southeast Asia, with trade and investment cooperation expected to grow.

Türkiye’s diplomatic outreach

The credential ceremony underscores Türkiye’s continued diplomatic engagement despite regional tensions. Ankara has been hosting NATO leaders in July and has recently been involved in mediating the Iran-US peace deal. The EU ambassador’s presence is particularly significant, as Brussels is discussing deeper economic integration with Türkiye. Turkish officials have emphasized that these diplomatic exchanges reflect Ankara’s commitment to dialogue and cooperation with diverse partners.
