Health workers in the Gaza Strip reported a dramatic rise in the death toll from Israel's heavy offensive in Shajaya on Sunday.
Dr. Kerem Kinik, Turkey's office director of the UK-based charity Doctors Worldwide, said at least 100 people were killed, mostly women and children. 'There is no longer room in morgues for bodies who are still awaiting identification, mortem examination and burial,' said Kinik on his Twitter account.
In a phone interview to Yenisafak, Kinik said that Israeli troops have hit people indiscriminately during the overnight's offensive. 'Israeli troops opened heavy artillery fire on Gaza's eastern district of Shujayea. They have hit whatever they come across. Two of our paramedics were killed, while striving to help injured people,' said Kinik.
Kinik also said Israel refused Hamas' call to cease striking to allow the injured to be carried off and tended to, and to remove the bodies from the hit areas. 'Israel wants to advance into this region to destroy resistance targets and tunnels they have previously discovered,' he said, adding that Israel want to break Palestinian uprising.
The director said the bodies were strewn in the streets. 'There has been a slaughter in Shajaya. People fled into the inner side of Gaza. There has been a constant strike during their escape,' he said.
