Officer who schemed against MIT chief detained
Police officer, who sought to detain Hakan Fidan, at that time the Undersecretary of the National Intelligence, was detained, says police sources
A senior police officer, who planned to detain Hakan Fidan, at that time the Undersecretary of the National Intelligence, or MIT, on February 7 2013 along with other intelligence officials, was detained.
Yurt Atagün, Istanbul's former counter-terrorism head, was detained in the first detention wave carried out against the police officers allegedly linked to the parallel structure.
Atagün first underwent a medical check and was then brought to Istanbul's police headquarters. 'I resigned myself. They cuffed my hands behind me. It is all political,' said the suspect, speaking to reporters before his medical check.
Atagun seemed very frustrated on his way to the police headquarters.
Sadrettin Sarikaya, the then Specially Authorized Prosecutor in charge of Article 250 of the Criminal Procedure Law, conducted a different inquiry into the KCK investigation against five intelligence officers including Hakan Fidan, the former Undersecretary Emre Taner and Deputy Undersecretary Afet Günes.
Sarikaya invited Fidan, Taner and Günes to testify into the probe over the Kurdistan Communities' Union, or KCK, an umbrella organization, linked with the outlawed Kurdistan Workers' Party, or PKK. Sarikaya also issued a warrant of arrest against two members of MIT. Sarikaya, the prosecutor in the KCK probe, was removed after calling MIT officials to testify.
