Key players in Dec. 25 raid deciphered content of illegally-wiretapped conversations in their home: technical report
A technical survey into the distorted hard disks at the Istanbul police headquarters showed that the records of key officials' illegally wiretapped conversations have been strangely taken out of the police HQ, according to an expert report.
The report, based on technical search into a number of the police's hard disks, said that the officers, who orchestrated the Dec. 25 raid to topple the government, kept the records of wiretapped conversations of the former PM Recep Tayyip Erdogan, ministers of his cabinet and several businessmen, in their home.
A correspondence, discovered in one of the distorted hard disks, showed that the officers took the records of conversations they had illegally wiretapped, in order to decipher their content, said the report submitted to the prosecutor's office investigating into the Dec. 25 plot.
Adem Yildirim, the Head of Platform for the Rule of Law said that taking the records out of the police headquarters is a crime, speaking to Daily Yenisafak in a phone interview.
'Officers, who have taken the records home, could also serve them to a foreign intelligence service. In this scope, we should consider a possibility of espionage,' he said.
Experts found traces of correspondence between the two officers when they searched the records of the Spark program that police use to send an instant message internally. The correspondence, dated 28 Nov. 2013, showed the police officers were involved in the illegal wiretapping operations and discussed about the illegal wiretapping.
The correspondence has been held by the officer numbered 362879, and the officer numbered 332878.
When the numbered-332878 could not understand what the numbered-362879 meant when he said he would take the records home with him, he asked if the records would be forwarded to TIBNOT, an alternative program which has been designed against Tib-NET, a program used by Turkey's Telecommunications Watchdog, or TIB.
The correspondence between the officers,
