Türkiye has condemned a terrorist attack by Daesh militant in Syria that targeted a joint patrol of Syrian and US forces near Palmyra. The Foreign Ministry extended condolences to the families of the victims and to the governments of Syria and the United States. Ankara reaffirmed its continued support for Damascus's efforts to combat terrorism and ensure stability within the country.

Türkiye has issued a formal condemnation of a terrorist attack in Syria carried out by an Daesh militant, which resulted in casualties among Syrian and American forces. In a statement released on Sunday, the Turkish Foreign Ministry denounced the assault that struck a joint patrol near the historic city of Palmyra.

Condolences and Continued Support for Counter-terrorism

The ministry extended its sympathies to the families of those killed and to the governments of both Syria and the United States, which are partners in the international coalition against Daesh. Reaffirming its commitment to regional security, the statement emphasized that Türkiye would continue to support the Syrian government's initiatives to strengthen national stability and combat terrorist threats.

US Central Command Confirms Casualties

The attack, which occurred on December 13, was confirmed by US Central Command (CENTCOM), which reported that two US service members and one civilian were killed. Three additional American troops were injured in the ambush conducted by the ISIS gunman. The incident highlights the persistent threat posed by the terrorist group's remnants in parts of Syria, despite its territorial defeat.

Türkiye's Regional Security Stance

This condemnation aligns with Türkiye's consistent foreign policy stance against all forms of terrorism and its support for the territorial integrity of neighboring Syria. Ankara has frequently emphasized the need for international cooperation to eliminate terrorist safe havens and has been actively engaged in counter terrorism efforts both within its borders and in the wider region.
