Türkiye and Iran held high-level talks on the escalating Middle East conflict, focusing on diplomatic pathways to end the war. Foreign ministers Hakan Fidan and Abbas Araghchi reviewed the latest developments amid ongoing US-Israel operations against Iran, as regional instability deepens and global markets face growing uncertainty.

Türkiye’s Foreign Minister Hakan Fidan and his Iranian counterpart Abbas Araghchi held a phone conversation on Monday to assess the ongoing Middle East war and explore diplomatic efforts to de-escalate tensions, according to diplomatic sources.

Focus on diplomacy and regional stability

During the call, both ministers exchanged views on the latest developments in the conflict and underlined the importance of political dialogue to bring the violence to an end. The discussion reflects Türkiye’s continued engagement in regional diplomacy aimed at stabilizing the Middle East.

Escalation since late February

The region has remained on high alert since a joint military campaign by the United States and Israel against Iran began on Feb. 28. The offensive has resulted in significant casualties, including the death of Iran’s former Supreme Leader Ali Khamenei, and has intensified geopolitical tensions.

Retaliation and wider regional impact

In response, Iran has launched drone and missile attacks targeting Israel as well as US-linked positions in countries such as Iraq, Jordan and Gulf states. These developments have disrupted infrastructure, aviation routes and energy markets, increasing risks for regional actors, including Türkiye.

Türkiye’s diplomatic role emphasized

The talks underscore Ankara’s role as a key diplomatic player seeking to reduce tensions and promote stability in the area, as the conflict continues to affect both regional security and global economic conditions.
