Türkiye’s Foreign Ministry condemned Israel’s “intensifying” strikes on Lebanon, which have killed at least 254 people and wounded 1,165. Ankara voiced unequivocal support for Lebanon’s sovereignty and territorial integrity, urging the international community to act without delay to end Israel’s occupation and protect civilians.
Türkiye’s Foreign Ministry issued a strong condemnation Wednesday of Israel’s escalating attacks against Lebanon, stating that the strikes have caused significant loss of life and severely worsened the humanitarian situation on the ground. The ministry “condemns in the strongest terms Israel’s intensifying attacks on Lebanon,” adding that the bombardment is further aggravating conditions in the country. Despite a recently achieved regional ceasefire, Ankara noted that Israel continues to undermine international efforts aimed at establishing peace and stability.
Support for Lebanon’s sovereignty
The ministry reiterated Türkiye’s unequivocal support for the preservation of Lebanon’s sovereignty and territorial integrity. It called on the international community to take urgent action, stating: “The international community must act without delay to bring an end to Israel’s occupation of Lebanon and ensure the protection of civilians.” The statement comes after Israel launched a deadly wave of strikes across Lebanon on Wednesday, with the Lebanese Civil Defense reporting at least 254 fatalities and 1,165 injuries.
Context of ongoing hostilities
Israel has carried out airstrikes and a ground offensive in southern Lebanon since a cross‑border attack by Hezbollah on March 2, despite a ceasefire that had taken effect in November 2024. The latest bombardment marks a dramatic escalation even as a two‑week truce between Washington and Tehran was announced. Türkiye, which has consistently opposed unlawful Israeli actions in the region, urged all parties to respect international law and to prevent further civilian suffering.
