Tensions have surged in the 10 days of violence that left 16 Palestinians dead and more than 1,000 wounded by Israeli forces
The Palestinian Ministry of Health issued an announcement on Saturday stating 16 Palestinians have been killed by Israel and more than 1,000 people injured with live and rubber-coated steel bullets since Oct. 1. While nine were shot dead, about 200 were injured in just 24 hours as the wave of violence continues in the occupied West Bank and Gaza Strip.
Meanwhile, two Palestinians were killed on Saturday in occupied east Jerusalem in two separate incidents. A 16-year-old Palestinian, Ishaq Badran, has become the 16th person to be killed by Israeli security forces. The boy was killed after he stabbed two Orthodox Jewish men, Israeli police claimed. Also a Palestinian was killed early today after he opened fire at police during night clashes at Shuafat refugee camp.
In another incident, Ahmed Salah, 20, was shot dead Friday night by Israeli Police at Shuafat checkpoint at the camp's entrance. “Police saw an armed man trying to enter the Jewish settlement,” claimed the Israeli army in the statement and said, “The suspect has been neutralized.”
Spokesman of the Fatah Movement in Shufat also said: "Fierce clashes resumed overnight at Shufat checkpoint, during which Israeli occupation forces fired the gun directly at the young men from close range."
