250 dead as landslide hits Afghanistan
A landslide, triggered by a heavy rain fall since mid-April, has struck a north-eastern province in Afghanistan, killing at least 250 people.
The natural disaster, which swept through Badakhsan province''s Argu region, badly destroyed 300 houses.
Fazluddin Ayar, the provincial police chief, said that death toll was now confirmed at 250 but it could be rise sharply.
Rescue teams and security forces were sent to the region for search-and-rescue efforts.
No further details were immediately available.
