Palestinian resistance group says hospital's destruction part of Israel's genocidal acts in Gaza

The Palestinian resistance group, Hamas, harshly criticized on Friday Israel's destruction of the Turkish-Palestinian Friendship Hospital in the Gaza Strip,

The hospital was built by Türkiye and operated by local authorities as a cancer treatment center.

Hamas described the destruction as "a sadistic act," and in a statement said it was part of Israel's genocidal acts against the Palestinian people.

The group blamed the US for the Israeli act greenlighting Israel "to continue its genocidal war against our Palestinian people, under complete disregard for international law."

It urged international relevant courts, including the International Court of Justice and the International Criminal Court, "to take legal action against the rogue entity and its criminal leaders for this brutal and disgraceful act."

The Israeli army blew up the Turkish-Palestinian Friendship Hospital in central Gaza on Friday, in its latest attack on Gaza's health care system.

A military statement claimed that Hamas had turned the hospital into a "terror infrastructure" -- without providing proof.

Since the beginning of the genocide in Gaza on Oct. 7, 2023, Israel has systematically targeted Gaza's health care system -- bombing and besieging hospitals, ordering evacuations and blocking medical supplies, particularly in northern Gaza -- all possible violations of international law.

More than 700 Palestinians have been killed and over 900 injured in Israeli airstrikes on Gaza since Tuesday, shattering a ceasefire and prisoner exchange agreement that had held since January.

Since October 2023, nearly 50,000 Palestinians have been killed, mostly women and children, and more than 112,000 injured in Israel's onslaught on Gaza.

The International Criminal Court issued arrest warrants last November for Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu and his former Defense Minister Yoav Gallant for war crimes and crimes against humanity in Gaza.

Israel also faces a genocide case at the International Court of Justice for its war on the enclave.
