Oman and Bahrain call for de-escalation and unity in Yemen

The Gulf states of Oman and Bahrain have issued separate calls for de-escalation and dialogue in Yemen, urging respect for the country's sovereignty amid a renewed crisis. The appeals follow a major escalation in southern Yemen after separatist forces seized control of key provinces.
Oman urges restraint and political solutions
In a statement Tuesday, Oman's Foreign Ministry said it is closely monitoring developments and continues to call for "self-restraint" and dialogue to reach a fraternal understanding. It emphasized the importance of respecting Yemen's sovereignty and stability, and reiterated support for consensual political solutions to achieve peace.
Bahrain expresses confidence in Saudi and UAE diplomacy
Bahrain's Foreign Ministry expressed deep appreciation for the roles of Saudi Arabia and the United Arab Emirates in supporting Yemen's security. It voiced confidence in the wisdom of both nations' leaderships to "contain any differences" within a unified Gulf framework and reaffirmed support for comprehensive political solutions that preserve Yemen's unity.
Context of the southern Yemen escalation
The diplomatic statements come after the UAE-backed Southern Transitional Council (STC) seized the eastern provinces of Hadramaut and Al-Mahra from Yemeni government forces earlier this month. The crisis deepened Tuesday when Saudi Arabia labeled UAE actions a threat to its national security, prompting Yemen's presidential council to cancel a defense pact with the UAE and demand its forces withdraw.
