"We strongly condemn attacks and we expect the international community to deliver on its commitments,” Turkish Foreign Ministry says over attacks of Russia, Assad, killing 60 in Idlib
Turkish Foreign Ministry has issued a message condemning the series of airstrikes launched by Russia that left 60 people killed and 200 others wounded in Idlib province of Syria.
"Yet another crime was added to the list of those committed by the regime and the Russian Federation in Syria, in the early hours of today. Over 60 civilians were killed and 200 people wounded in a series of airstrikes on Idlib National Hospital, Abrar Mosque and other civilian targets, reported to be carried out by Russia," Foreign Ministry said.
"We strongly condemn this appalling attack and wish God's mercy upon the civilians killed and speedy recovery for the wounded," the ministry said.
"It is clear that Russia, who claims to advocate a political solution and the cessation of hostilities agreement, is blatantly disregarding the very principles it purports to uphold," the statement said.
"We expect the international community to deliver on its commitments without further delay in the face of these crimes committed by the regime and the Russian Federation which cannot be justified vis-à-vis history and our collective conscience," ministry added.
The Assad regime has been supported by Russia, which intervened in the Syrian war at the end of September 2015, and took on Syrian moderate opposition forces under the pretext of fighting Daesh.
The death toll in Syria has risen to more than 250,000 people while half the country's population has been forced from their homes, according to the United Nations.
