Türkiye prepared to serve as guarantor if two-state solution achieved

Turkish Foreign Minister Hakan Fidan has announced that Türkiye stands ready to serve as a de facto guarantor power should a two-state solution be implemented for Palestine. Describing this as a "major commitment" requiring significant responsibility, Fidan emphasized Türkiye's willingness to ensure any peace agreement acceptable to Palestinians is properly implemented.
Turkish Foreign Minister Hakan Fidan has declared that Türkiye is prepared to assume the role of de facto guarantor should a two-state solution be established between Palestine and Israel. During a television appearance Saturday, Fidan characterized this potential commitment as representing a substantial responsibility that not every nation would be equipped to undertake in the complex Middle Eastern peace process.
Guarantor commitment details
Fidan specified that Türkiye's guarantor role would be contingent upon the implementation of a two-state solution based on the 1967 borders, providing Palestinians with a sovereign and equal state. He emphasized that expecting "full trust" in Israel was unrealistic in the current circumstances, instead highlighting the necessity of maintaining international pressure to ensure accountability from all parties involved in the conflict resolution process.
Current mediation efforts
The foreign minister noted that Türkiye has consistently acted as a mediator in efforts to conclude the Gaza conflict, leveraging its diplomatic relationships and historical support for Palestinian causes to advance peace initiatives. He revealed that an "early task force" has already been established to address operational challenges during the current ceasefire process, including complications related to hostage and remains exchanges between the conflicting parties.
Institutional Framework Development
Fidan indicated that discussions continue regarding three institutional mechanisms outlined in the US-proposed ceasefire framework: a task force, peace council, and stabilization force. While these structures remain under negotiation, Türkiye's existing defense and intelligence coordination efforts demonstrate the country's capacity to accept expanded responsibilities should comprehensive peace be achieved in the region.
