Air defense systems in the United Arab Emirates and Kuwait successfully intercepted multiple projectiles launched from Iran, including a missile and several drones. The overnight attacks mark a further escalation in regional hostilities amid ongoing US-Israeli strikes on Iranian territory.

The United Arab Emirates reported early Friday that its air defense forces successfully intercepted a missile fired from Iranian territory. Sharjah’s local government announced on social media that its defensive systems had neutralized the incoming projectile, urging residents to remain in secure locations and follow official guidance. The interception came as Gulf states remain on high alert amid widening regional conflict.

Kuwait repels drone and missile threats

Kuwait’s military announced that its air defense units had repelled what it described as “enemy” missile and drone attacks overnight. The military confirmed that explosions heard across the country were the result of successful interception operations. Kuwait’s National Guard separately reported shooting down two unmanned aerial vehicles. Authorities in both Gulf nations emphasized that defensive measures were carried out effectively, with no immediate reports of casualties or significant damage.

Regional conflict continues to spread

The attacks on the UAE and Kuwait represent the latest spillover from the ongoing military confrontation between Iran and the US-Israel alliance. Since February 28, joint US-Israeli airstrikes on Iran have claimed over 1,340 lives, including that of former Supreme Leader Ali Khamenei. Iran has responded with repeated drone and missile strikes targeting Israel as well as Jordan, Iraq, and Gulf states hosting American military assets, causing infrastructure damage and disrupting global markets and aviation. Türkiye, which maintains close diplomatic and economic ties with Gulf nations, continues to urge restraint and has warned that further escalation risks destabilizing the entire region.
