AA
Turkish Foreign Minister Hakan Fidan meets with Ukrainian Foreign Minister Andrii Sybiha in Kyiv, Ukraine on July 16, 2026.

Ukrainian Foreign Minister Andrii Sybiha proposed Türkiye on Thursday as a potential venue for direct talks between President Volodymyr Zelenskyy and Russian President Vladimir Putin, stating that Kyiv is ready for a ceasefire and believes only a leaders' summit can inject new momentum into the stalled peace process.

Ukrainian Foreign Minister Andrii Sybiha said on Thursday that potential talks between President Volodymyr Zelenskyy and Russian President Vladimir Putin could take place in Türkiye. Speaking alongside Turkish Foreign Minister Hakan Fidan in Kyiv, he emphasized the importance of direct engagement.

"We state that negotiations, particularly a possible meeting between President Zelenskyy and Putin, could take place in Türkiye," Sybiha said, noting that such talks could help end the war.

Kyiv ready for ceasefire

"I believe only a summit of leaders can inject new momentum into the peace process," he stated. "As Ukraine, we are ready for a ceasefire," he added.

The proposal comes as Ankara maintains its role as a mediator between Moscow and Kyiv. Turkish officials have hosted previous negotiations between the warring parties.
