The US and Israel attacked the Iran Aluminium Company (IRALCO) in Arak, the country's largest aluminum producer, as well as the Amirkabir Petrochemical Complex in Mahshahr in southwestern Khuzestan province, Iranian media reported. IRALCO, located in central Iran, is the country's main aluminum production hub.
Strike details
Khuzestan's deputy governor said the Amirkabir petrochemical complex in Mahshahr was struck in an aerial attack at around 11.40 pm local time on Tuesday. No casualties were reported in the attack, the official said.
Industrial targeting
The strikes on IRALCO and Amirkabir expand the US-Israeli targeting of Iranian industrial infrastructure beyond military, energy and transportation facilities to include strategic industrial production sites. Aluminum production is critical for Iran's manufacturing and military industries.

Conflict context
The strikes come as President Trump's Tuesday evening deadline for Iran to reopen the Strait of Hormuz passed without a reported agreement. Trump had threatened to "decimate" every bridge and power plant in Iran if no deal was reached. The US and Israel have launched joint strikes on Iran since Feb. 28, killing more than 1,400 people according to Iranian authorities.
