The US Central Command released images Saturday of the USS George H.W. Bush operating in the Arabian Sea as the carrier prepares to relieve the USS Abraham Lincoln following reports of deteriorating conditions and supply shortages aboard the vessel deployed for over 250 days.

Carrier Arrival

US Central Command on Saturday released images of the USS George H.W. Bush aircraft carrier operating in the Arabian Sea, signaling the vessel's arrival to relieve the USS Abraham Lincoln amid mounting concerns over prolonged deployment conditions faced by American sailors.

The images, posted on the social media platform X, showed fighter jets launching from the flight deck as the Nimitz-class nuclear-powered vessel sailed "in the Arabian Sea supporting security in the Middle East," according to the military command. The George H.W. Bush departed Yokosuka, Japan, in May for a Pacific patrol and was observed earlier this week transiting the Strait of Malacca.

Deployment Concerns

The deployment comes after US President Donald Trump confirmed Friday that the Abraham Lincoln would be replaced, acknowledging reports of supply delays and mental health struggles among crew members. "That ship is moving right now, or very shortly, and it's being replaced with another very similar ship," Trump told reporters when asked about conditions aboard the vessel, which has spent more than 250 days at sea with no port call in the last 200 days.

US Senator Richard Blumenthal cited concerns in a letter to Defense Secretary Pete Hegseth and acting Navy Secretary Hung Cao regarding shortages of basic supplies, water contamination, plumbing failures, and mail disruptions that have delayed care packages for months. Navy Secretary Cao stated the Lincoln would return home soon as part of a planned rotation, while the service disputed reports of a broader mental health crisis aboard the vessel, saying it has not identified an increase in reported suicidal ideation or suicide attempts, according to The Wall Street Journal. The carrier began its deployment in November and was redirected to the Middle East in January ahead of the US war with Iran.
