German midfielder Kroos' very late goal brings victory to his team, Sweden unable to withstand pressure

Germany midfielder Toni Kroos' very late goal against Sweden sealed the victory for Germany as they toppled Sweden 2-1 in the 2018 FIFA World Cup Group F game in Sochi Saturday.

In the 32nd minute, Sweden took the lead when their forward Ola Toivonen lobbed the ball over German goalkeeper Manuel Neuer, 1-0.

Germany replied back in the 48th minute of the second half when Borussia Dortmund star Marco Reus scored the equalizer.

German forward Timo Werner passed a low cross to his teammate Mario Gomez. Gomez, lurking in the penalty box, was unable to kick the ball, but Reus followed the ball on loose and sent it into the Sweden net. This goal encouraged Germany.

In the 82nd minute German defender Jerome Boateng was sent off after a foul.

In the fifth minute of the stoppage time, Kroos brought the Germans back to life as he fired a classy curved shot. Swedish goalkeeper Robin Olsen couldn't parry it.

Kroos' thunderbolt sealed the victory for Germany, with Sweden unable to withstand the German pressure.

In the other match of the day, Mexico beat South Korea 2-1 in Rostov-on-Don.

Forwards Carlos Vela and Javier Hernandez were scorers for Mexico.

South Korean forward Son Heungmin scored a consolation goal near the end of the game.

After beating Sweden 2-1, Germany, with three points in standings, are in the second spot.

Sweden are in third with three points as well.

South Korea are in last place with zero points after the second matches.

The final matches in Group F will be played on June 27 as South Korea faces Germany and Mexico takes on Sweden.
