A total of five red cards and two penalty decisions stole the show in Istanbul on Saturday night when Fenerbahce defeated rival Besiktas 2-1 in Turkey's Super Lig match.

The match in Fenerbahce's Sukru Saracoglu Ulker Stadium saw the home team take the lead in the 20th minute when Brazilian attacking midfielder Giuliano converted the penalty kick after stiker Vincent Janssen was brought down inside the six yard box.

Just before half time, Besiktas' winger Ricardo Quaresma was sent sent off for two yellow cards and Fenerbahce's Luis Neto was dismissed with a red card when he brought down striker Cenk Tosun.

In the second half, both teams efforts to score were fruitless until the 86th minute, when Janssen converted the penalty kick to put his team up 2-0, which resulted with defensive midfielder Atiba Hutchinson's dismissal from the floor with a second yellow card.

Only a minute later, Besiktas scored a goal thanks to a header pass from striker Alvaro Negredo to Ryan Babel, who also finished with a header in the 87th minute.

Fenerbahce defender Ismail Koybasi was sent off for a dangerous tackle in the 88th minute, Oguzhan Ozyakup was also dismissed from the field for a second yellow card as well before the final whistle.

Fenerbahce, with the 2-1 win, increased their points total to 11 after six matches, while Besiktas suffered their first loss of the season.
