UEFA investigates financial breaches of Besiktas

UEFA launches an investigation into the finances of Besiktas, Monaco, Roma, Inter, Krasnodar, Liverpool and Sporting Lisbon

Europe's football federation UEFA  launched an investigation against seven clubs, including Turkey's Besiktas, regarding financial breaches.

In a statement released Thursday, UEFA called on Besiktas, Monaco, Roma, Inter, Krasnodar, Liverpool and Sporting Lisbon to submit reports on their financial status to the federation's financial control body.

The federation also announced that Turkish club Bursaspor's Europa League prize money was being suspended under financial fair-play regulations.

CFR 1907 Cluj, FC Astra Giurgiu, FK Buducnost Podgorica and FK Ekranas also had their Europa League prize money withheld because of debts to other clubs, staff and tax authorities.

UEFA will make a final decision about the five clubs' provisional prize money payment suspensions in December.

The financial fair-play rules apply to clubs participating in UEFA competitions and consist of monitoring transfer fees, staff salaries, income and expenditure.
