Turkish intelligence chief details 2025 operations and preventive security strategy

Türkiye’s National Intelligence Organization (MIT) Ibrahim Kalin

In an article marking the 99th anniversary of the National Intelligence Organization (MIT), chief İbrahim Kalın outlined a year of successful preventive operations against terrorism, espionage, and cyber threats. He emphasized a holistic security approach and the agency's role in "intelligence diplomacy" across conflict zones.

Turkish intelligence chief İbrahim Kalın has detailed a comprehensive range of security operations carried out in 2025, emphasizing a strategy of neutralizing threats before they materialize. In an article commemorating the 99th anniversary of the National Intelligence Organization (MIT), Kalın described a shift toward a "preventive intelligence paradigm" that combines human, technical, and AI-enhanced analysis for long-term strategic forecasting.

A holistic approach to modern threats

Kalın argued that contemporary security challenges require an indivisible, holistic response integrating operational, tactical, and strategic dimensions. He reported that MIT's work in 2025 included thwarting espionage networks, countering sophisticated cyber attacks, and disrupting activities aimed at undermining social stability. The fight against terrorist organizations, including the PKK, ISIS, and FETÖ, was described as continuing with "determination and resolve," with the ultimate goal of a "terror-free Türkiye" framed as a multidimensional national project.

'Intelligence diplomacy' and regional stabilization

Beyond domestic security, Kalın highlighted MIT's role in what he termed "intelligence diplomacy," facilitating communication between conflicting parties in various global hotspots. He stated the organization contributes to de-escalation efforts "from the Gaza ceasefire to the Russia-Ukraine war, and from Somalia to the Afghanistan-Pakistan axis." On Syria, he expressed optimism about a recent "irreversible" turning point and reaffirmed Türkiye's commitment to a unified, sovereign Syrian state. He also noted growing engagement in Africa, emphasizing local solutions and cooperation.

Anchoring security in tradition and future readiness

Concluding his assessment, Kalın paid tribute to fallen intelligence officers and stated that MIT, operating under the leadership of President Recep Tayyip Erdoğan, draws on a "centuries-old state tradition" to safeguard national security. As the agency approaches its centennial, the outlined vision positions Turkish intelligence not merely as a defensive entity but as a proactive, strategic actor integral to both national resilience and regional stability efforts.
