A view of the memorial service held for the Turkish soldiers Hamdi Armagan Kaplan and Burak Ibbigi, who lost their lives in the C-130 military cargo plane crash along the Georgia-Azerbaijan border, in Amasya, Turkiye on November 14, 2025.

A solemn ceremony has been conducted at Ankara's Murted Air Base for the 20 Turkish soldiers who died in last week's C-130 aircraft crash near the Azerbaijan-Georgia border. The service included religious prayers and military honors before the fallen personnel were transported to their hometowns for burial.

Turkish officials and military leaders have gathered at Murted Air Base in Ankara to honor twenty soldiers who perished in a military transport aircraft crash near the Azerbaijan-Georgia border. Friday's ceremony brought together senior government officials, military commanders, and grieving family members to pay final respects to the service members who died when their C-130 aircraft went down on November 11.

Ceremony Proceedings

The memorial service included a moment of silence observed by attendees, followed by recitations from the Quran and special prayers for the deceased soldiers. Military personnel formally read the service identifications of each fallen soldier before their flag-draped coffins were carried by honor guards to waiting aircraft for transportation to their respective hometowns across Türkiye, where local burial ceremonies will be conducted.

Official Attendance

The ceremony drew high-level participation including Parliament Speaker Numan Kurtulmus, National Defense Minister Yasar Guler, and Family and Social Services Minister Mahinur Ozdemir Goktas. Senior Turkish Armed Forces commanders, Ankara Governor Vasip Sahin, and diplomatic representatives from Azerbaijan including Air Force Commander Major General Namig Islamzade and Ambassador Reshad Mammadov joined the families of the deceased in paying tribute to the fallen personnel.

Presidential Condolences

President Recep Tayyip Erdogan conveyed his personal condolences to the families of the soldiers killed in the aviation accident, expressing profound sorrow over the tragic loss of military personnel. The president's message emphasized the nation's collective grief and extended prayers for the deceased service members, acknowledging their ultimate sacrifice in service to the country.
