Türkiye's domestic electric car brand Togg outsells Tesla, BYD in home market

Türkiye's national electric vehicle manufacturer Togg has become the best-selling EV brand in the domestic market for the January-November period, outperforming global giants Tesla and BYD. Togg sold 31,715 units, capturing a 20% market share as overall EV sales in Türkiye more than doubled.
Türkiye's homegrown electric vehicle brand Togg has achieved a significant milestone, emerging as the top-selling electric car in its domestic market and outperforming international competitors. According to the latest data from the Automotive Distributors' and Mobility Association (ODMD), Togg sold 31,715 units between January and November, surpassing Tesla's 29,955 and BYD's 17,639 sales in the same period.
Dramatic Market Shift Towards Electrification
The sales figures underscore a profound transformation in the Turkish automotive sector. Overall passenger car sales grew 10.96% to 938,177 units in the first eleven months of the year. However, the most striking trend is the rapid electrification of the market. Fully electric and extended-range EV sales skyrocketed 111.4% to 166,665 units, capturing a 17.8% market share. Hybrid vehicle sales also surged 71.3% to 251,992 units, signaling a decisive consumer shift away from traditional internal combustion engines.
Market Leadership and Competitive Landscape
Togg's T10X and T10F models led the charge, with the brand alone accounting for approximately 20% of the total EV market. The top three EV brands—Togg, Tesla, and BYD—collectively held a 47.5% share of electric car sales. In November alone, Togg sold 4,235 units, solidifying its monthly lead over Tesla (2,535) and BYD (1,833). This performance demonstrates the successful reception of Türkiye's strategic push for industrial and technological sovereignty in a critical sector.
Broader Sector Trends and Türkiye's Industrial Vision
The data reveals a sharp decline in the market share of gasoline and diesel vehicles, dropping to 47.2% and 7.4% respectively. Meanwhile, the combined share of fully electric, extended-range, and hybrid vehicles reached 44.7% of the total market, nearing parity with traditional powertrains. Togg's success is a cornerstone of Türkiye's broader industrial policy, aiming to establish a globally competitive national automotive industry, reduce import dependency, and position the country as a regional hub for next-generation mobility solutions.
