Iranian FM to hold key talks in Ankara on Friday
Iranian Foreign Minister Abbas Araghchi

Iranian Foreign Minister Abbas Araghchi will visit Ankara for discussions with his Turkish counterpart, Hakan Fidan. The agenda includes bilateral relations, regional security, and escalating tensions, with Türkiye expected to oppose military intervention in Iran and emphasize dialogue.

Iranian Foreign Minister Abbas Araghchi is scheduled to visit Ankara on Friday for high-level talks with Turkish Foreign Minister Hakan Fidan. According to Turkish diplomatic sources, the discussions will encompass a broad range of bilateral and pressing regional issues, underscoring the strategic importance of Türkiye-Iran relations for Middle Eastern stability.

Focus on Bilateral Trade and Regional Stability

Minister Fidan is expected to highlight Ankara's commitment to deepening ties through established mechanisms like the High-Level Cooperation Council. A key objective is advancing toward a mutual goal of $30 billion in bilateral trade, with enhanced cooperation in energy, transportation, and border commerce. Fidan will also convey that Türkiye views Iran's security and stability as crucial for the entire region and will reiterate firm opposition to any foreign military intervention against its neighbor, warning of its potential global repercussions.

Addressing Regional Crises: Gaza, Syria, and PKK/PJAK

The talks will extend to major regional crises. Regarding Gaza, Fidan will stress the need for concrete action, including uninterrupted humanitarian aid and support for reconstruction. On Syria, the importance of the ceasefire and territorial integrity will be emphasized. Furthermore, Türkiye is expected to point to the role of the PKK's Iranian affiliate, PJAK, in recent unrest, arguing that neutralizing the group is essential for Iran's internal security. This reflects Türkiye's consistent stance against all branches of the designated terrorist organization.

Diplomatic Context and Relationship Background

The meeting occurs amid heightened regional tensions and follows a series of diplomatic engagements. The last meeting of the High-Level Cooperation Council was held in early 2024, and the two foreign ministers met in Tehran in late 2025. As of November 2025, the total trade volume between the two neighbors stood at approximately $5 billion. The dialogue in Ankara represents a critical channel for de-escalation and coordination, positioning Türkiye as a key advocate for diplomatic solutions in its surrounding region.
