Israel fears creation of independent Palestine
An expert on international relations says Israel fears the creation of an independent Palestinian state
An expert on international relations said that what Israel has feared the most is the creation of an independent Palestinian state.
'Israel has tried to prevent a declaration of independent Palestine as much as possible. If this does not work, it will try to do everything to suspend this declaration,' said Professor Mustafa Sitki Bilgin, the director of international relations and strategic researches institute of Yildirim Beyazit University.
Bilgin thinks Israel has actually aimed at the Fatah-Hamas unity in Gaza. 'Fatah and Hamas have publicly declared the creation of a unity government in Gaza. That's one of the reasons for Israel's relentless attacks,' Bilgin said, adding that Israel wants to crush Hamas politically.
'Israel is a state of crime and terror. It has always had a black mark on its political record since its creation.'
'ZIONISM AND HITLER WORK TOGETHER IN GAZA'
Bilgin agrees with Turkish Prime Minister Recep Tayyip Erdogan for his rhetoric which likened Israel's actions to those of Hitler. 'Zionism has been inspired by Herder and Fichte, the founding fathers of German racialism. The Prime Minister is not wrong when he compared Israel's present policy to what Hitler had followed,' Bilgin said.
'Zionism and Hitler's nationalism have been fed by the same source. Both are based on violence and oppression.'
The expert also touched on the financial aspect of Israel's offensive which entered its fifth week.
'A huge amount of gas reserves have been discovered in the Mediterranean off the coast of Gaza. Israel demands the gas should come ashore on its territory and at below market price, but that's a secondary reason which has motivated Israel to invade Gaza Strip,' he explained.
Bilgin also said that the final destination Israel wants to go to is as far as possible through the Promised Lands, which they claimed they had been promised. 'Israel's aggression is basically motivated by this policy. Israel wants to see Gaza either as dead or as a slave,' he added.
