Israel issues demolition orders for Palestinian homes and wells in West Bank

Israeli military authorities have delivered six demolition notices for Palestinian residential and agricultural structures in the village of Asfi, located south of Hebron in the occupied West Bank. The orders target essential infrastructure including homes, water wells, and livestock shelters belonging to six Palestinian families in the vulnerable community.

Targeted Structures and Local Response

According to Masafer Yatta local council head Nidal Younis, the demolition orders cover six residential tents and homes, five water wells, and a tin shack used for animal feed storage and livestock protection. Younis reported that village residents now live with constant fear and uncertainty, anticipating demolition operations could commence at any time without warning.

Planning Context and International Standing

The demolition notifications followed Israeli authorities' recent rejection of an urban development plan prepared by the local council for Asfi village. These actions occur despite the International Court of Justice's landmark opinion last July that declared Israel's occupation of Palestinian territory illegal and demanded evacuation of all West Bank and East Jerusalem settlements.

Broader Demolition Campaign Statistics

Since October 2023, Israeli forces have conducted more than 1,014 demolition operations throughout the West Bank and East Jerusalem, damaging or destroying 3,679 structures according to Palestinian documentation. The demolitions have included 1,288 inhabited homes and resulted in 1,667 additional pending demolition orders for Palestinian properties across the occupied territory.
