A stabbing attack along a busy commercial strip in western Sydney Tuesday left one man dead and two people critically injured, Australian authorities reported. The incident occurred on Merrylands Road in the suburb of Merrylands, where emergency services responded to reports of a man stabbing multiple individuals before fleeing on foot.
Victims and Response
A man believed to be in his 30s or 40s died at the scene despite emergency efforts. A 22-year-old man and a 47-year-old woman were transported to hospital in critical condition. Police confirmed two stabbings occurred inside a business premises, while a third took place on the footpath outside.
Suspect in Custody
Authorities arrested a man behind a nearby house on Smythe Street and transported him to Granville Police Station. NSW Police Superintendent Simon Glasser stated that "the alleged offender is known to police for petty crime and a number of mental health incidents." A crime scene has been established as investigations continue into the motive behind the attack.
